Description: The WSU John Houstoun Memorial Award was established in 1993 with donations from the University of Waikato, Waikato Students’ Union, New
Zealand University Students’ Association, and relatives and staff / students of
the University as a memorial to John Houstoun. John was an outstanding President of the WSU in 1993 until his death by car accident on 9 July of that year. Up to one award is made each year. The purpose of the Award is to celebrate outstanding academic diligence (e.g., ongoing excellence; continuing improvement) coupled with contribution of the student to cultural and/or sporting life at the University of Waikato.
Eligibility:
. To be eligible, applicants must:
1. have completed at least 120-points ( i.e., one full-time year of academic study) towards their degree at the University of Waikato, at the time of application;
2. be enrolled (part- or full-time) in the second year or above of their qualification at the University of Waikato; and
3. be a NZ Citizen, NZ Permanent Resident, NZ Resident Class Visa holder, or Australian Citizen/Permanent Resident domiciled in NZ or international student.
4. Current members of the Waikato Students’ Union Executive, or employees of the Waikato Students’ Union who hold a fixed-term or continuing contract, are not eligible to apply for this Award.
5. The Award may only be held once, and previous recipients are not eligible to apply.
6. Selection is based on the applicants’ academic achievement(s); and contributions from the student towards the cultural and/or sporting life of the University.
